Club Community Activities

Key Club at Horizonte School in Salt Lake City
In the fall of 2014 the Kiwanis Club of Salt Lake City started a Key Club at Horizonte School. Key Club is the high school organization sponsored by Kiwanis Club. Key Club assists Kiwanis in carrying out its mission to serve the children of the world. High school student members of Key Club perform acts of service in their communities, such as cleaning up parks, collecting clothing and organizing food drives. They also learn leadership skills by running meetings, planning projects and holding elected leadership positions at the club, district and international levels.

Terrific Kids Program

The Salt Lake Kiwanis Club works with schools in the Salt Lake School District to honor students as Terrific Kids.
Terrific Kids is a student-recognition program that promotes character development, self-esteem and perseverance.

“Terrific” is an acronym for Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive and Capable.

Students work with their classroom teacher to establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance or school work.  All students who achieve their goals after a specified time are recognized as Terrific Kids. At the end of the school year all the students are recognized again with a Pizza lunch at the University of Utah with a special appearance by U of U students athletes giving a motivational speech to the kids.

Teacher Recognition Program

Working with principals at selected schools in the Salt Lake School District at the end of the school year we recognizes and honor teachers who are making a difference at their school. They are selected by the principal and recognized at our weekly luncheon.
